Italian Program News and New Courses
Dear Advisors in the College of Engineering,
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to share with you some news from the Italian Program at Purdue.
Starting in Fall 2025, students who opt for Italian Major will be required to complete 27 credit hours (as opposed to 30). We hope that this change will make it more feasible for students to complete Degree Plus in Italian Studies.
We have added two new Italian courses to the Catalog. ITAL 381 “Italian and Italian American Food Culture” (successfully launched in Fall 2024 and will be offered again in Spring 2026) and ITAL 285, “Intercultural Migration to Italy in Film, Literature and Art.”
I have attached the flyer for a new course, ITAL 285 “Intercultural Migration to Italy in Film, Literature and Art” which will be taught for the first time in Fall 2025, in hopes you can share it with your advisees. ITAL 285 is in the Core Curriculum and satisfies Human Cultures: Behavioral/Social Science (BSS) foundational learning outcome. This course explores migration to Italy through the perspectives of contemporary film, literature, and art, with a specific focus on reimagining the Italian identity in the 21st century, on citizenship law and human rights, and on intercultural growth of students who participate in the course.
I appreciate your help in informing your advisees about the changes in the Italian curriculum.
All my best,
Tatjana
